Macomb County Sheriff: Don't Fall For Scams
The sheriff's office is investigating reports of Macomb County residents receiving calls from people requesting money in lieu of arrest.
MACOMB COUNTY, MI — The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is warning residents not to fall for a number of scams that have been reportedly making the rounds in the county.
During the past two days, the sheriff's office has received multiple reports of Macomb County residents receiving calls from people requesting money in lieu of being arrested, the department said. The cases are being investigated by sheriff's detectives.
The caller, who the sheriff's office identify as a man, tells residents he is a member of the Macomb County Sheriff's Office and says the resident has arrest warrants or has missed jury duty. In order to avoid arrest, the caller tells residents, they must pay $2,000 cash. The caller then provides residents a meeting spot, the sheriff's office said.

"These telephone calls are not being made by any staff of the Macomb County Sheriff's Office and citizens are warned not to give our personal information or meet up with these callers," the department said in a statement.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office will not call any member of the public and ask for money in lieu of arrest, the agency said.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call from someone they are unfamiliar with, the sheriff's office said they should do their research on the entity before providing any information.
