MACOMB COUNTY, MI — A protest against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd's death has been scheduled for Macomb County Saturday.

The protest is planned to begin at 4:30 p.m. on Hall Road in Sterling Heights, near the Golden Corridor. Demonstrators will then make their way east to the Macomb Community College in Clinton Township, where it will end at 6:30 p.m.

"Do not let poor behavior overshadow the power of your message," Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said in a news release Friday. "I hope that the residents of Macomb County can be an example to other communities and can come together peacefully in an effort to show what they strongly believe in."

The sheriff's department issued a news release asking those planning to protest to park at the Lakeside Mall and walk to the Olive Garden, 13835 Lakeside Circle.

Eastbound Hall Road will be shut down to vehicles from Schoenherr to Garfield for the protest, police said. Following the protest there will be a rally with speeches from community leaders at the Wayne State University parking lot at the corner of Hall Road and Garfield.

Police said buses will be provided to transport people to their vehicles.

The sheriff's office said the number of people participating in the protest is still unknown. The news release noted that the protest is expected to be peaceful, and that violence and destruction of property will not be tolerated.
