Modified Lockdown At L’Anse Creuse North Lifted

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office believes it has the student responsible for posting a threatening message to Snapchat earlier Monday.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — A modified lockdown at L’Anse Creuse North High School has been lifted after the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office located the student allegedly responsible for posting, “I have a gun in my backpack” to the social media website Snapchat earlier Monday.

No weapon was found, Sheriff’s Office Deputy Renee Yax said in a statement. Deputies were called to the school at about 1 p.m. Monday and began investigating the threat immediately.

It’s unclear what, if any, charges will be filed against the student. A Patch request for additional information from the Sheriff’s Office wasn’t immediately returned.

After deputies arrived Monday afternoon, a second note was posted to the same group of L’Anse Creuse North students saying, “lmao jk,” Yax said. Deputies said the wording is slang for, “laughing my ass off just kidding.”

Deputies are currently at the high school continuing to investigate.

The modified lockdown lasted for more than two hours. Under a modified lockdown, students may move throughout the building and classes go on as usual. But nobody leaves or comes into the building, Yax said.

Parents wishing to pick their child up early are greeted at the door and must show identification in a modified lockdown, she added.
