Residents Fight Adult Foster Care Assisted Living Project

A group of Clinton Township residents are opposing the development, which would convert three condominium buildings into care facilities.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — A licensed adult foster care assisted living facility could be approved Tuesday by Clinton Township’s Board of Trustees despite objections from more than 100 residents. Three buildings — approximately 24 units — in Schultz Estates condominiums would be converted into facilities that would house residents of nearly all ages, according to a Macomb Daily report.

“Simply put, we don’t feel this is the right fit,” said Tim Perry, a property manager for Phase 3 of Schultz Estates, a collection of 600 condominiums constructed in five phases. “Our concerns center on safety, the impact on our property values and logistics. The section that is being proposed is basically a dead end street. We’ve invested in our properties over the years. The buildings are not designed to house medical facilities.”
“I think the planning commission and director Carlo Santia vetted the proposal very well,” said Bob Cannon, township supervisor. “We must vote on what is best for the entire community, and the planning commission feels this is a good project.”
