Spranger Ordered Out Of Employee Hiring Decisions

Macomb County Clerk Karen Spranger was also ordered not to stop employees from doing their jobs.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — Macomb County Clerk Karen Spranger can’t interfere with the hiring of employees, stop employees from doing their jobs or create a hostile work environment. That was the Monday ruling from St. Clair County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Kelly, according to a Macomb Daily report.

“Defendant (Spranger) shall not reject, refuse to recognize, bar from or otherwise refuse admission into the premises of the Clerk’s facilities and work spaces, and/or deny full and fair training and/or meaningful work to any employee,” Kelly wrote in the six-page order.
“County attorney John Schapka said the ruling should go a long way in resolving the staff shortage in the Clerk’s office, which includes the court section, vital records and register of deeds. There are 14 vacancies among the 88 unionized positions. He said he expected Human Resources to move quickly to fill the posts, which have contributed to backlogs in several services in the Clerk’s Office.”
