Man Charged In Shooting Death Of Dearborn Man

The 38-year-old man was an acquaintance of the victim, a longtime resident of Dearborn, police said.

DEARBORN, MI – A 38-year-old Westland man has been charged with murder and weapons charges in the shooting death of a long-time Dearborn resident last week. Robert Gonzalez was arraigned on the charges Tuesday and is expected back in court on March 9 for a probable cause hearing.

Gonzalez was arrested by police in Adrian on Saturday after the shooting on Friday in Dearborn. Police reported that officers were called to the neighborhood of Whittington and Canterbury streets for reports of a man down. Officers arrived and found the victim, identified as Ismaeel Abdulla, 37, of Dearborn, laying in the street and he had been shot. Medics arrived but were not able to save him and he died.

"While this incident remains a tragedy for the entire community, I am grateful for the tremendous efforts of our department that resulted in the quick arrest of Gonzalez with no one else being harmed," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad.
