Baydoun Gets Up To 15 Years In Prison In Dearborn Man's Death
'I am heartbroken about the sentence,' said the son of a Dearborn man killed last December.

DEARBORN, MI — A 27-year-old woman convicted in the death of a Dearborn man will spend up to 15 years in prison. Maya Baydoun was convicted last month of reckless driving causing death and moving violation causing death for hitting 89-year-old Mohamed Abdel-Hak, according to a Dearborn Press & Guide report.
"Abdel-Hak, 89, was hit and killed Dec. 28 while riding a motorized scooter on Chase Road at Hemlock. The accident took place at about 2:30 p.m. as he crossed the intersection. Police said Baydoun ran a red light while on her cell phone and hit him. Witnesses called police, and Abdel-Hak was transported to Beaumont Hospital-Dearborn where he was pronounced dead."
"His son, Hassan Abdel-Hak, said the family had hoped for a tougher sentence. “I am heartbroken about the sentence,” he said. “It disregarded our emotions and feelings.”
