The single most pressing issue facing our state is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
defunding public education: I will continue my advocacy work at the State level to increase public education funding. Immediately after I got appointed, I went to Lansing on multiple occasions to advocate for more funding for our schools. Our representatives, Abdullah Hammoud and Senator Santana have been very supportive. However, other members in the legislature who are out of our districts aren’t as supportive. That’s why I began to reach out to school board members who are in those districts; to get them to help us advocate together as a collective board. I will continue to fight for more funds for public education; because it’s the foundation of the greater good.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
- Experienced information technology professional with extensive background in IT which I believe will be an asset to the Board as we navigate post COVID World
- As an immigrant and a former bilingual student, I understand the challenges new students face and ways to address them
- I taught students for 3 years teaching them technology, leadership as well as media and financial literacy.
- I have an MBA and extensive business background which I also believe will be vital to the board's handling of finances
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Since my appointment in April 2019, I challenge the administration as well as my colleagues to do more for our students, teachers, and staff. Our taxpayers deserve a good return on their investment: a successful fiscally responsible and innovative district. In my short tenure, I have advocated for more support to our district and Henry Ford College from our legislators. I continue to be vocal about the importance of social and emotional learning; leading the passing of the anti-bullying resolution by our board and recognizing the month of October as National Bullying Prevention Month. I have worked with my colleagues and demanded from the College President, to improve the student experience on campus; many students were frustrated with financial aid for example, and we have many strides in this aspect; College and district alike need to be responsive.

How will you address the calls for racial justice and police reform?
Our relationship with the police has to always be centered around student success, restorative practices, and pro-active measures to keep students focused on their academic excellence. I believe national and local dialogues are crucial to address racial justice. I have supported student-led activities in this area and will continue to do so.
