Dearborn-based Carhartt Calling On Customers To Help In Hurricane Harvey Relief

The workwear company will collect clothing donations for people in need after the hurricane in Texas and Louisiana.

DEARBORN, MI — To help people affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Louisiana, the Dearborn-based outdoor clothing and workwear maker Carhartt Inc. will host a clothing drive at its 30 stores across the nation. Customers can donate gently used clothing during the next couple of months, the company announced today.

Carhartt will partner with One Warm Coat, an organization that provides clothing to people in need, to collect and distribute the clothing. Carhartt has a store at 5800 Cass Avenue in Detroit. "It's critical that those affected by this storm have dry clothes on their backs and access to basic essentials while communities and organizations work to get men, women, and children back on their feet as quickly as possible,” said Mark Valade, chairman and CEO at Carhartt.

The company also is making product donations to Convoy of Hope, a disaster relief organization providing assistance and supplies to the affected areas, as well as SkillsUSA chapters, which provides carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and other building trade training.
