Dearborn Businesses Offer Incentives, Prizes For Shoppers

DEARBORN, MI — An effort to help boost Dearborn businesses with incentives and prizes for those who shop local will continue amid tighter coronavirus safety restrictions with an emphasis on online shopping, officials said this week.

The effort aimed at allowing shoppers in Dearborn to do their holiday shopping locally beginning on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28 and continuing through Dec. 6.

Shoppers can pick up or print off Downtown Dearborn Shop Small passports for savings at nearly 40 businesses in the city. The passports can be downloaded online here.

Those who have the passport stamped with every purchase or fill out the online form will have a chance to win prizes provided by local retailers. The more shoppers shop and dine, the better your chances are at winning.

Due to increased COVID-19 restrictions in Michigan, Cristina Sheppard-Decius, manager of the East and West Dearborn Downtown Development Authorities, said people can still record times they get carry-out, delivery or when they order online.

"We are working to reach back out to all of the participating businesses to verify any changes, but would always encourage consumers to ask a business prior to shopping or at check out," Sheppard-Decius said. "Right now our local small businesses need the community's support."

Local owned businesses reinvest more than 70 percent of their earnings into their own community, and since the pandemic has hit small businesses the hardest, they need additional support, Sheppard-Decius said.

“The Downtown Dearborn Shop Small program is one way to do this, and we’ve made it easy, fun and rewarding," she said.
