Dearborn Couple's Home Threatened By Growing Sinkhole

Construction of a new home next to the couple's created a sinkhole that has destroyed a fence and sunk their driveway more than three feet.

DEARBORN, MI. — A newly married Dearborn couple’s Princeton Street home is being threatened by a growing sinkhole they say was caused by construction of a new home at an adjacent lot.

Billy Ashcraft and wife Christine Ashcraft-Zyla have already lost a fence because of the hole and a portion of their driveway has sunk more than three feet, according to a Detroit Free Press report.

"I'm terrified," said Billy Ashcraft, 38. "I'm concerned about my foundation collapsing."
“Ali Raichouni, the contractor on the building project, said the area's grainier soil erodes more easily in the rain, but the driveway is not ruined and will soon be back to its previous elevation. "Nobody should panic or anything like that," he said. "I've never seen a driveway collapse. I'm hoping by God's will that the driveway will not collapse."
