Dearborn Opens Special Park For Canines And Their Masters
The 2.3-acre park near Henry Ford Centennial Library is restricted to residents and licensed pooches.

DEARBORN, MI — Call it canine bliss. The city of Dearborn this week opened its dog park near the Henry Ford Centennial Library. The new 2.3-acre park is restricted to Dearborn dog owners who have paid a $30 fee for using the facility and have demonstrated that their dogs’ shots are up to date.
The park is divided into two areas, one for larger animals and the other for smaller ones. Each area is enclosed with a fence and accessible only through a gate.
The park, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day from April to November, has benches, dog waste bags and waste disposal stations, water access and unique “dog agility” equipment, which includes adjustable jump bars, elevated agility walk platforms, walk ramps, hurdles, teeter-totters and barrels. The Oakwood Group, a Dearborn-based company founded in 1945, donated $15,000 donation for the equipment.
To get a permit, dog owners must show proof of residency, a copy of their dogs’ licenses, documentation proving the dogs have been neutered or spayed and current vaccinations, and a photo of their dog. Residents who buy a permit now will receive access for both the remainder of this season and the entire 2018 season, which is April 15 through Nov 15, 2018.
