32-Year-Old Dearborn Man Charged In April Murder: Police

The man is also accused of tampering with evidence and lying to police in connection with the homicide investigation, police said.

DEARBORN, MI — Dearborn police say a 32-year-old man is accused in the killing a woman in early April.

Hassan Alwaily, of Dearborn, was arraigned Friday morning before 19th District Court Judge Mark Somers on one count of first-degree premeditated murder and one count of felony murder, police said. Alwaily was ordered to be held without bond until his next court appearance, which is scheduled for May 12, police said.

Alwaily was previously charged with tampering with evidence and lying to a peace officer in connection with the homicide investigation, police said.

“Our detectives have worked tirelessly on this investigation," Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said. "This crime, in particular, struck the conscience of all good people. Our condolences go out to the family, friends, and the community.

“The work that was done by the Dearborn Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s spanned 24 days almost around the clock," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. "I want to publicly thank all of the investigators in this case for their tireless work despite the mounting challenges of the coronavirus.”

Around 4:50 p.m. on April 6, police responded to a residence on Dunning Street after a woman was found dead under what police described as suspicious circumstances.

During the course of the investigation, police said Alwaily became a person of interest. On April 11, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office approved two felony tampering with evidence and lying to a peace officer during an investigation charges against Alwaily in connection to this incident, police said.

Further investigation and additional evidence prompted police to submit for first-degree and felony murder charges against Alwaily, police said.
