Dearborn Superintendent Maleyko Gets 'Highly Effective' Review
The rating means Maleyko's contract is automatically extended by one year, the district said.
DEARBORN, MI — The Dearborn Public Schools Board of Education Superintendent Glenn Maleyko has received a positive evaluation from the school board, which rated his performance as "highly effective."
The "highly effective" rating means Maleyko's contract is automatically extended by one year, the district said, allowing him to maintain a continuous three-year agreement.
“The board commends Dr. Maleyko on his work in such a difficult year and with so many changing variables,” Trustee Adel Mozip said. “Dr. Maleyko, along with his team, were proactive and responsive to the district’s needs during a pandemic year.”

Dearborn Public Schools adjusted continuously to educating students during a pandemic over the past year. The time frame included complying with health requirements and implementing online learning.
Maleyko also continued to serve on the Executive Board of the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators.

“This has been a very trying year for the district with a constantly changing landscape and the need to repeatedly and dramatically reinvent how we are educating students,” Maleyko said. “My evaluation is a reflection of the hard work of our team, and I am fortunate to be able to work with so many talented professionals who truly care about educating children.
"The board is a big part of that success, and I appreciate the trust that the board has in me and our team and how we work so well together. We were put to the test over the last year, and we stepped up. Hopefully next year’s challenges will be small by comparison.”
Board President Jim Thorpe said in a statement that the evaluation is an extensive process and the results reflect the board’s and the community’s support for Maleyko.
“The past year has been very difficult with the constantly changing COVID situation. Dr. Maleyko did a great job keeping the board informed and providing us information to make decisions for our students and staff,” Thorpe said.
For the evaluation, the board used a tool developed by the Michigan Association of School Boards that allowed each trustee to tank Maleyko’s effectiveness in five areas: governance and board relations, community relations, staff relationships, business and finance, and instructional leadership.
Board members also reviewed the results of a staff survey about Maleyko’s performance. This section made up 50 percent of the overall evaluation score, the district said.
Student growth makes up 40 percent of the superintendent’s evaluation, with the last 10 percent based on work being done toward the district’s strategic plan goals.
“I’m very passionate about the important work we as educators must accomplish, excited about the future of our schools and students, and proud to be part of such a great community," Maleyko said.
