Downtown Dearborn Launching A New Vision Plan for 2030
Dearborn is asking people to partake in creating a new vision for the city.

DEARBORN, MI — Dearborn is encouraging residents, students, visitors, businesses and employees to share their input regarding how Dearborn’s community can grow to enhance the Downtown experience for all by taking the Downtown Dearborn Vision Plan survey now through the end of October, or by joining the conversation on social media.
Springing from Dearborn’s Master Plan and Branding Dearborn initiative, the Dearborn Downtown Development Authorities are defining how that vision applies specifically to Downtown Dearborn.
“We have made substantial gains over the last few years, but as our community grows, we must keep our eyes on a greater, shared vision of where we are going and identify any areas in which we need to hone in on or touch,” said Cristina Sheppard-Decius, manager of the DDDAs. “The DDDAs can then adjust its strategies as needed to reach that vision.”

The survey will be used to gather ideas on how Downtown Dearborn can be more diverse, connected and innovative, according to a news release. Based on years of studies and plans, the community is asked to embellish on what Downtown Dearborn envisions, such as:
- An attractive mix of well-maintained historic and new buildings that create an authentic vibe.
- Uniting the two downtowns and their historic attributes across the physical, social, and psychological barriers that have divided them.
- A safe, walkable environment that emphasizes people over cars.
- A vibrant, livable center with a variety of housing options and amenities.
- Attracting top talent, cultivating innovative businesses and entrepreneurs.
- Leveraging diverse cultural, historic, artistic amenities as a destination for tourists, students, and residents.
- Green, open, and active places for the public to connect, congregate, and recreate.
The city is encouraging people of all ages to participate in the survey. A final plan is anticipated to be adopted by the DDDAs by the end of the year.
