Inkster Man Charged With Arson After Police Say He Detonated Fireworks At A Dearborn Church
The 43-year-old man tossed a lit firecracker into the chapel during a prayer service.

DETROIT, MI — An Inkster man has been charged with arson after police say that he lit and tossed fireworks into the the Divine Child Church in Dearborn on Wednesday, Aug. 23. Police arrested the man, David A. Cerne, 43, on Friday, after releasing pictures of his black Cadillac taken by surveillance cameras.
Cerne was charged today with third degree arson, arson prep to burn real property, and malicious destruction of property under $200, reported the Wayne County prosecutor’s office. He is expected to be arraigned on the charges on Wednesday in the 19th District Court.

Police last week reported that the suspect tossed the firecracker into the chapel along North Silvery Lane during prayer services. No injuries were reported, but a bible was damaged in the incident.
