Leadership Award Presentation and Meet Our Women Leaders Program

The AAUW-Dearborn invites the public on Weds. March 6, 2019 at 7 pm to recognize three student leaders followed by a special Meet & Greet !

The American Association of University Women -Dearborn is inviting the public to attend the ninth annual AAUW-Dearborn Marge Powell Leadership Awards Presentation and Meet and Greet with Our Women Leaders Program. It will take place on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 7:00-8:30 pm at The Dearborn Public Schools Administrative Center-Board Room located at 18700 Audette Street, Dearborn, MI 48124.

Three students who have exhibited outstanding leadership capability, one from each Dearborn Public High School, will be honored at this event. The awardees are Jenna Deebajah from Dearborn High, Zoe Rogula from Edsel Ford, and Nesreen Shukr from Fordson. They will be accompanied by a school representative and their families. AAUW-D President Valerie Murphy-Goodrich will present the awards.

This award was created honoring Marge Powell, a member of AAUW-D, who served the community of Dearborn for 35 years. She was President of the Dearborn City Council for eight years, 1977-85. She was also president of the Dearborn PTA Council, a member of the University of Michigan-Dearborn Citizen Advisory Council and the Governor’s Energy Awareness Advisory Committee. She received the honor of being named the Metro Detroit Boys and Girls Club Citizen of the Year, and the Person of the Year for the Dearborn Inter-Service Club Council. Marge has always been an advocate for social justice and equity. She currently resides in Ann Arbor with her son.

After the award presentation, there will be a Meet and Greet with three women who currently serve in leadership positions from our community. They are The Honorable Stacy Bazman, Mayor of Melvindale, Dearborn Councilwoman Leslie Herrick, and Mary Jo Durivage, President of The League of Women Voters of Dearborn/Dearborn Heights. Light refreshments will be served.
