SAMS Foundation Launches Emergency Response in Lebanon

Help Delivery Aid to those Impacted by Explosion

On August 4, 2020, a massive explosion in Beirut killed more than 220 people, injured 6,000 and plunged 300,000 into homelessness virtually overnight. Thousands of traumatized survivors have lost everything and are in immediate need of humanitarian and medical assistance, including food, shelter and medical care. Several major medical facilities were damaged in the blast, reducing patient capacity at a time when many survivors are seeking care and the number of COVID-19 cases in Lebanon is rising.

Here is what the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) Foundation is doing to respond to this devastating emergency:

  • Distributing medical supplies for hospitals and humanitarian kits for homeless families;
  • Partnering with INARA to secure a medical tent providing urgent care to survivors;
  • Coordinating with 44 hospitals across Beirut to maximize their relief efforts;
  • Establishing medical and psycho-social referral systems for survivors;
  • Distributing hygiene and sanitation kits and food parcels to individuals affected by the explosion, including Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian families in partnership with Food Blessed;
