Melvindale Student Charged With School Threats

The boy Snapchatted an image of himself holding a gun, according to authorities.

MELVINDALE, MI – A 15-year-old high school student has been charged with making a false threat-threat of terrorism after police say he threatened to shoot up his school, according to authorities. He also has been banned from contacting or being at any Melvindale school.

The boy on Monday and Tuesday contacted another Melvindale High School student via Snapchat and said that he was going to attack the school, reported Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy's office. The student also texted an image of himself holding a gun.

The communications were reported to school officials, who in turn contacted local police. After an investigation, the boy was arrested.

During a preliminary hearing at the juvenile detention center, a judge set bail at $20,000. If the boy is able to post bond, he is prohibited from contacting or appearing at any Melvindale school. He is to appear in court again on March 5.
