Metro Detroit Gas Prices Jump 10 Cents Per Gallon In One Week

AAA data shows a surge in gas prices in the wake of OPEC's announcement to cut production.

DEARBORN, MI — Gas is going up in Metro Detroit, according to new AAA Michigan data.

The Dearborn-based auto club reports that a regular gallon of unleaded self-service gasoline in the Detroit area is now approximately $2.19 cents. That's about a 1o cent per gallon jump in just the last week. Statewide, a regular gallon of unleaded self-service gasoline will run you $2.20.

What's causing the spike? The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) decided last week to cut production of oil by 1.2 million barrels a day, the Wall Street Journal reports. Hence, economics principle 101: Lower supply equals higher prices.
