Rotary Club of Dearborn Awards Over $50,000 In Scholarships

DEARBORN, MI — More than $50,000 is being awarded to 17 graduating high school seniors in Dearborn, two Henry Ford College nursing students and a military veteran attending the University of Michigan-Dearborn, the Rotary Club of Dearborn announced recently.

The scholarships are awarded in four merit-based categories, each of which is endowed by or honors a past Dearborn Rotarian. The awards range from $8,500 to $2,000 to be used for tuition, books or class fees.

Colleen Nieman, the 2020-21 Rotary Club of Dearborn president, credited Scholarship Chairperson Lee Hollmann and Board Vocational Director David Anderson as well as individual scholarship chairpersons with coordinating and reviewing the scholarship applications.

“They didn’t miss a beat, given the need to adjust schedules and communications channels during the pandemic," she said.

Here are the scholarship winners along with their respective scholarships:

• Harry A. Sisson Scholarship (1) - Reda Mazeh of Fordson High School
• Hugh M. Archer Scholarship (2) - Adam Allouch of Dearborn High School and Lena Elkoussy of Fordson High School
• Past Presidents Scholarship (4) - Maya Beydoun and Grace Boettger of Dearborn High School; Luke Hetrick of Edsel Ford High School, and Maryam Shafie Khorassani of Fordson High School.
• Otto Rowen Vocational Scholarships (10) - Badr Algamal, Saif Alheresh, and Zeshan Arshad of Edsel Ford High School; Belal Dabaja, Khalid Esmail and Ali Kassem of Fordson High School; Dania Jadallah and Olivia Thibodeaux of Dearborn High School; and Mohammad Lakhani and Steven Rios of Henry Ford Early College.
