Teens Will Be Charged As Adults In Dearborn Murder, Armed Robbery

Police say one of the teens fatally shot a 29-year-old Dearborn woman, Saja Khalid Al-Janabi, shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.

DEARBORN, MI — Three teens will be charged as adults in connection with a murder, multiple armed robberies and an assault Sept. 6 in the 7800 block of Bingham Street on Dearborn's north side. Jamel Marquise Philson, 17, of Highland Park, Demaurio Dismuke, 14, of Detroit, and an unnamed 13-year-old will be arraigned Friday afternoon in district court.

Police say Dismuke fatally shot a 29-year-old Dearborn woman, Saja Khalid Al-Janabi, shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6. Al-Janabi was lying on the ground near her car when officers arrived. She was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound and later died.

Police say Dismuke also fired his gun at a 56-year-old man as he fled the scene of the shooting. It's not clear from a press release whether that man was struck.

Police say Dismuke, Philson and the unnamed teen were also responsible for an armed robbery in the 7000 block of Steadman Street shortly before the fatal shooting. In that case, police say they robbed a 49-year-old woman at gunpoint before running away.

Prosecutors said Dismuke and Philson will be tried as adults, while the unnamed teen will be designated an adult, which will allow a judge to sentence him, if convicted, as a juvenile or an adult, or to "fashion a blended juvenile and adult sentence."
