20-Vehicle Pileup, Other Crashes Reported In Metro Detroit

Slick roads and wet conditions stemming from overnight snow have been blamed for the crashes.

METRO DETROIT — The number of crashes across Metro Detroit Wednesday morning is mounting, with slick roads causing a series of minor crashes and at least one pileup involving several vehicles, according to multiple news reports.

At least 20 vehicles are involved in one crash on the ramp from eastbound I-696 to eastbound I-94 in Roseville, according to ClickOnDetroit.

Several other crashes have closed some highways and delayed traffic across other Metro Detroit roadways. WXYZ has compiled a list of crashes here.

The area's slick roads were caused by a storm front that passed through the area Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service in Detroit reported that roads across Metro Detroit were slushy in spots, with some accumulation in grassy areas.

"Icy spots on some roadways this morning, especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges, overpasses, and exit ramps," the weather service said in a Twitter post on Wednesday morning. "Motorists are urged to use caution and account for variable driving conditions by slowing down and allowing extra time."
