$550M Donation Made To Western Michigan University: Report

A formal announcement from the university is expected on Tuesday.

KALAMAZOO, MI — An anonymous Western Michigan alumn is donating $550 million to the university — the largest private gift ever to a public university, according to reports.

The donation will be delivered over 10 years, The Detroit News reported Tuesday. It will include $300 million for the university's Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine, $200 million for financial aid, faculty hiring and other school initiatives and $50 million for athletic programs.

A formal announcement will be made at 1 p.m. Tuesday, the university said.
