Air Quality Alert: Metro Detroit Warned Of Pollutants
Active kids and adults should avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, warns the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

DETROIT, MI – The temperature is expected to climb into the mid-80s and the sun is to shine on Friday, but there is a problem in the air. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air quality alert for the Detroit Metropolitan area on Friday.
Airborne pollutants could be harmful to some people, the agency warns. Active children and adults, as well as people with asthma and other respiratory conditions, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
People and businesses also should avoid activities that lead to ozone formation, including refueling cars and trucks, topping off a gas tank when refueling, using gasoline powered lawn equipment and using charcoal lighter fluid.

Alternatively, people might consider carpooling to work and school, biking, delaying or combining errands, and using water-based paints.
The alert covers Wayne, Oakland, Monroe, St. Clair, Lenawee and Monroe counties, and the cities of Detroit, Ann Arbor, Warren, Monroe, Port Huron, Adrian and Pontiac.
