Obama is expected to campaign for Stabenow, who is running for her third term in the U.S. Senate against Republican John James, and Whitmer, who is locked in a tight race with Republican Bill Schuette for Michigan governor. The former president, who remains wildly popular with Democrats, also will pitch for congressional candidates Matt Longjohn, Gretchen Driskell, Elissa Slotkin, and Haley Stevens in advance of the November 6 elections.

"We are thrilled to welcome President Obama back to Michigan, and again thank him for his steadfast work as president to save the American auto industry, the lifeblood of our state’s economy,” said Brandon Dillon, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, in a statement. “The stakes have never been higher — healthcare is on the line, along with clean water, voting rights, and our very democracy itself with the chance to end gerrymandering on the ballot.”
