Couch Potatoes Not Allowed: Lululemon Opens Downtown Detroit Concept Store
The yoga and athletic clothing retailer celebrates its grand opening on Friday.
DETROIT, MI—If you are a couch potato, do not go to the lululemon store grand opening in downtown Detroit today. Repeat: DO NOT go. This will not be a wine and cheese party. Shoppers need to be prepared to dance, run and do some yoga.
This is, afterall, lululemon—a retailer of yoga-inspired athletic wear. It features exercise and active clothing for women and men.
The new lululemon, a concept space, called the Downtown Detroit Local, is in the historic Woodward Avenue District. The unique, community-focused shop offers “a place for connection, sweat and collaboration” via events and technical product offerings, according the store’s promotional material.

Gottlieb, aka “Yoga Dan,” added, “The spirit of Detroit is alive! I'm born and raised in Detroit, I love being a part of this story of rebirth. I am thankful for the opportunity to share – ruthlessly – my love of yoga and wellness with all of Detroit #Yogatownusa.”
The store, at 1454 Woodward Ave., will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
