Detroit City FC Cancels Spring Season Due To Coronavirus

The team expects its fall season, which begins in August, to start on time. It also announced it is working on the summer season.​

DETROIT, MI — Detroit City FC on Monday announced that its men's team spring season has been canceled due to the new coronavirus.

The team made the announcement via a post on its Twitter page, explaining that while the men's spring season is canceled, the women's season is delayed. The team expects its fall season, which begins in August, to start on time. It also announced it is working on a summer season.

"This decision was not taken lightly and was based on consultation with teams, local health officials, and U.S. soccer," the team said in a statement.

The team said it is continuing to build contingency plans in case future seasons are canceled.

"With this season's move to a professional men's team and the addition of our women's team, this was going to be a big year for DCFC, and we, like you, are incredibly disappointed but know that this is the right thing to do," the statement continues.

Anyone with tickets to matches that were canceled will receive a credit, the team announced.
