Detroit Mom Charged In Car Crash Death Of Son, 3
The boy was not restrained and was thrown from his mother's van in the crash last week, prosecutors say. Her van then rolled over the boy.

DETROIT, MI – A 27-year-old woman was charged Monday in the death of her 3-year-old son last week. Authorities say the boy was not restrained in a child safety seat when Charlessia Pelt crashed at Seven Mile and Hayes roads on Thursday evening.
Pelt has been charged with operating while intoxicated, reckless driving causing death, and multiple counts of child abuse, according to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
According to reports, Pelt was driving her van at Seven Mile and Hayes with her son unrestrained in the rear passenger seat. Authorities say she drove through a a red light and hit another car. On impact, the boy was thrown from the van and onto the street. The van then rolled backward over the child and hit a parked car.

The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police say that Pelt was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Pelt was arraigned on Sunday. Her bond was set at $1 million. She is expected back in court on Monday, Aug. 20.
