Detroit's Fort Street Bridge Closing Thursday For Inspections

Drivers will need to seek an alternative to cross the Rouge River, MDOT says.

DETROIT, MI—The Fort Street bridge over the Rouge River will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday for safety testing, reported the Michigan Department of Public Safety. The bascule bridge will be raised and lowered as inspectors test the bridge operations.

MDOT officials suggest that northbound drivers use Interstate 75 as detour. Southbound drivers, however, will need to plan an alternate route due to the closure of the southbound I-75 lanes. MDOT suggested drivers consider I-96, which is the southbound I-75 detour.

This inconvenience is necessary for the important testing of the bridge to ensure the safety of drivers and ships that pass below the bridge.
