Driver Injured After Sandbag Thrown From Oakland County Overpass
Police said a woman was seriously injured when her vehicle was hit by a 40-pound sandbag thrown from an Oakland County overpass Sunday.
OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A woman was seriously injured Sunday night when the vehicle she was driving was hit by a 40 pound sandbag thrown from an Oakland County overpass, Michigan State Police said Monday morning.
According to Michigan State Police, troopers were called to westbound I-96, near Old Plank Road, in Lyon Township around 11 p.m. to assist the Oakland County Sheriff's Office with a traffic crash investigation.
Troopers said a man had crashed his truck on I-96, walked on to the Old Plank Road overpass, which was under construction, and began throwing 40 pound sandbags used at the construction site from the overpass.

One sandbag crashed through the victim's windshield, police said. She was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, police said.
The suspect left the scene and was picked up by a passerby who drove him to his Brighton home, police said. The suspect told the passerby what had occurred earlier, police said, and the driver called police and told them.

During their investigation, troopers said they found several footprints that matched the suspect's shoes.
Police said they have submitted a request for felony charges against the suspect, who is currently lodged in the Oakland County Jail.
Troopers said they've sought for felonious assault causing great bodily harm and/or impairment, damage to private property and throwing objects at motor vehicles causing injury.
