Falling Debris From Building Prompts Full Road Closure In Detroit

City officials said the building owner has received more than $4,500 in tickets.

DETROIT — Falling debris from a building that has already been the cause of more than $4,500 in tickets has prompted the closure of a street in Detroit.

The city's Department of Public Works has ordered a full closure of East Warren Avenue at St. Auburn Street and Northbound Dequindre Street at East Forest Avenue due to masonry falling from a deteriorating building nearby. All traffic is being rerouted to go south, taking Canfield Street to Russell Street, officials said.

The owner of the building has received more than $4,500 in tickets from the city's Buildings, Safety Engineering, & Environmental Department, officials said, and the city will continue to issue tickets daily until the owner addresses the hazard.
