ICYMI: Gov. Whitmer Activates Emergency Operations Center
The spread of coronavirus has caused Michigan's governor to take emergency measures to protect residents.

LANSING, MI — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has activated Michigan's Emergency Operations Center to bolster coordination between federal, state and local agencies amid the spreading of coronavirus, according to reports.
The operations center, in Lansing, is dedicated to helping agencies coordinate in response to disasters, emergencies and terrorist events. Its activation does not mean there is an imminent emergency — it's meant to help prevent one.
The Michigan State Police website says "governor, state director of emergency management and homeland security and other agencies direct all state resources at this center," when responding to such events.

ABC7 reported Whitmer made the announcement Friday morning alongside the state's health and human services Chief Medical Executive Joneigh Khaldun, the military and veterans affairs department head Maj. Gen. Paul Rogers and the Michigan State Police's Captain Emmitt McGowan.
There have been no confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Michigan so far. However, ABC7 reported, authorities want to inform the public as to what they're doing to combat the virus.
