Government Shutdown: Michigan Is Among States Least Impacted
States with a lot of government jobs are feeling the impact of the shutdown, according to a financial services website.

DETROIT, MI – If there is some good news out of the government shutdown, it's that Michigan is among states feeling the lightest impact from it. According to a report released Monday, Michigan is ranked 50th among the 50 states and the District of Columbia for the impact of the shutdown.
The shutdown enters its third day on Monday, though U.S. Senate leaders say they are closer to a three-week spending measure that could open government while they continue to negotiate a longer term deal. A vote is scheduled on the measure at noon on Monday.
The state of Minnesota is the only state that's feeling lesser impact from the government shutdown than Michigan, according to WalletHub.com, a web site that offers offer financial advice and credit services. Meanwhile, the District of Columbia, and the states of Maryland and Virginia are feeling the biggest impact from the shutdown, which makes sense considering the number government jobs that are centered in the nation's capital and the surrounding area.

WalletHub based its rankings on the number of government jobs in each state, the amount of federal dollars for contracts in a given state and the percent of children in the Children's Health Insurance Program. It also factored in small business lending, real estate transfers that will be hindered by staffing to review government-backed loans and access to national parks.
Michigan scored low for the number of children in the Children's Health Insurance Program, according to WalletHub.
