LIVONIA, Mich. – Stevenson High School and the Livonia community are coming together for one, full week – Feb. 11 through Feb. 18 – to make no-sew fleece blankets to assist Fleece & Thank You (F&TY), Michigan’s largest provider of comfort care to hospitalized children. The Livonia Community “Drive Thru” Blanket Making Event presented by Stevenson High School National Honors Society (NHS) aims to create 175 blankets to benefit 175 children who currently are in local hospitals receiving treatment.

“I came across Fleece & Thank You through social media and immediately connected with its mission. As a parent with a child who spends a lot of time in the hospital, I know firsthand what a soft, warm blanket can mean to them,” said Angela Wojtyniak a counselor at Stevenson High School, who is helping to organize the drive-thru event. “Our students are excited for the hands-on activity and happy to help spread joy to as many kids in the hospital as possible.”

Without ever having to leave their vehicles, students, teachers, staff and individuals and families in the Livonia community interested in participating can pick up F&TY Blanket-Making Kits from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 at Stevenson High School (33500 Six Mile Rd. in Livonia). Those who participate will have seven days to make a blanket from the comfort and safety of their own home and then, once finished, are asked to return to the high school for a Blanket Drop-Off from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18.

“Stevenson High School NHS and the Livonia Community has been important partners and it’s exciting to work with people with so much passion,” said Nicholas Kristock, co-founder and CEO, Fleece & Thank You. “This drive-thru blanket making event will take us one step closer providing every child in every hospital bed with a colorful, fleece blankets and a friendly face at the start of their treatment.

F&TY’s signature program is the blanket-making event. Individuals, families, corporations and community groups host more than 400 blanket-making events every year to help F&TY achieve its goal of making 30,000 fleece blankets – one blanket for every child in Michigan that goes into the hospital for inpatient treatments.

Every blanket F&TY provides also has a personal video message attached to it from the blanket maker to the recipient in the hospital, who can then send a “thank-you” message back to the maker.
