Moroun's Legacy: Ambassador Bridge Owner Talks About His Future

Matty Moroun – and his son – sit for a rare interview.

DETROIT, MI – Want a look inside the reclusive life of Manuel (Matty) Moroun, the owner of the Ambassador Bridge? The Detroit Free Press has an impressive profile interview of both the business tycoon, who has fought with government authorities on both sides of the Detroit River, and his 43-year-old son, Matthew, who the newspaper describes as the "more urbane and polished, charitable and well-dressed" heir to the Moroun fortune.

The article chronicles the the 90-year-old business life, from his early days at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School, his rise in the family trucking business, his ownership of the Ambassador Bridge and plans to build a new span across the river, and teases of what might be ahead for the Michigan Central train station, which he currently owns.

Moroun's son plays a prominent role in the lengthy article, too, as the elder Moroun discusses his legacy and who's now in charge of the business: "He's running everything," says Manuel Moroun of his son. The Free Press points out that the elder Maroun has granted a mere two interviews with the media.
