McDonald's supports DPSCD teachers on 'Rise Up' development day

Efforts on "RISE UP" Professional Development Day will help get day off to a strong start

DETROIT, Mich. (Nov. 6, 2018) – Teachers and support staff in the Detroit Public Schools Community District are spending Tuesday developing their skills and McDonald’s of Michigan partnered with the district to get their day off to a great start.

The DPSCD’s “Rise Up” Teacher Professional Development Day is taking place Tuesday at Cobo Hall. To help attendees prepare for the event, Detroit McDonald’s owner/operators gave teachers and support staff from all of the district’s 106 schools a Be Our Guest card redeemable for a free breakfast meal.

“McDonald’s is proud to partner with the Detroit Public Schools Community District to support this important day,” said Detroit McDonald’s owner/operator Errol Service. “Teachers and support staff play a vital role in the growth and development of Detroit’s children and this is our way of saying thank you for the work they do every day in the classroom.”

“Providing breakfast for our staff attending professional development at Cobo Hall is very much appreciated and is just the latest way that McDonald’s is showing its support for DPSCD,” said Chrystal Wilson, DPSCD spokeswoman. “This is another example of partnerships that are leveraged to support teachers who are the Districts most valuable employees helping students to rise.”

The “Rise Up” Teacher Development Day is in its second year and is designed to provide ongoing relevant and robust opportunities for professional development. In the morning, teachers and support staff will hear from several keynote speakers and in the afternoon they will take part in breakout sessions specifically related to their needs.

Earlier this fall, McDonald’s also supported DPSCD’s “Every School Day Counts” initiative. In that program, McDonald’s owner/operators visited DPSCD schools to share how being in attendance every day leads to future success. DPSCD principals and school leaders also handed out McDonald’s Be Our Guest cards to high school students, redeemable for a free meal.
