MI Unmasked: Where Things Stand As Many COVID Restriction End
Now that many COVID-19 restrictions have been rescinded, here is where things stand with the coronavirus in Michigan.
MICHIGAN — Michiganders can take off the masks on Tuesday after more than a year of COVID-19 restrictions.
As residents go out in public without oversight from coronavirus guidelines, here's a look at how things stand in the state in terms of the coronavirus.
Coronavirus Cases and Deaths
As of Monday, Michigan's total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is greater than 893,000 and its number of reported COVID-19 deaths is encroaching on 20,000.

The state reported Monday that it had added 327 new coronavirus cases over the course of the past three days. During that same time frame, the state has added 35 COVID-19 deaths. The new figures bring Michigan's coronavirus numbers to 893,491 confirmed cases and 19,647 reported deaths.
Michigan health officials also reported over the weekend that 860,080 people in the state had reportedly recovered from the virus.

Outbreaks in Michigan Schools
Michigan has seen the number of coronavirus outbreaks in its schools drop in recent weeks. On Monday, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported three new outbreaks, including two in Macomb County schools and one at a Detroit district.
The newly reported outbreaks increase the number of outbreaks to 53, according to the most recent data released by the state.

Michigan's Vaccination Rate is on the Rise
More than 55 percent of Michigan residents ages 16 or older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
According to that state data, over 4.7 million residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Of those, more than 4.3 million have received a complete vaccination, meaning two doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
That data could be conservative, too. Data provided in the Michigan COVID-19 Dashboard on the state's website undercounts the true number of doses administered to Michigan residents, officials said. It also doesn't include children 12-15 years old who have been vaccinated.
