Michigan Coronavirus Cases Decrease As Vaccinations Increase

LANSING, MI — Michigan is encroaching on 900,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and has reported nearly 20,000 COVID-19 deaths as of Saturday, but things are actually headed in a positive direction.
The state, according to Michigan Department of Health and Human Services numbers, has seen a drop in new coronavirus cases for the seventh straight week. Meanwhile, more people continue to get in line to receive vaccinations against the deadly virus.
Michigan reported 388 new cases on Saturday, which brought the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state to 890,345. Michigan also added 72 COVID-19 deaths on Saturday — 66 of which were identified through a vital records review. The state has reported 19,365 COVID-19 deaths to date.

State health officials on Saturday reported that 837,864 people in Michigan had recovered from the virus. At the same time, Michigan reported Friday that more than 4 million residents had received their COVID-19 vaccination. That number is likely higher, but the MDHHS reported that its vaccination numbers could not be updated due to an error.
Over the past five days, Michigan has seen its reported new cases and deaths fluctuate. But on a larger scale, the state has seen a drop in new cases.

Michigan reported 2,626 coronavirus cases and 202 deaths this week. That number is down from the 3,778 cases and 158 deaths reported last week, The Detroit News reported. The week before that, Michigan reported 8,578 cases and 332 COVID-19 deaths.
The state's single-highest weekly coronavirus spike was in November, when Michigan added 50,892 cases from Nov. 15-21, according to The Detroit News.
