MICHIGAN — All Michiganders 16 and older are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine beginning Monday, but getting signed up for one may not be very easy.

Residents 16 and older are eligible following a March 12 announcement from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Michiganders 16 and older with preexisting medical conditions have been eligible since March 22.

The state previously allowed residents 50 and older with medical conditions or disabilities and caregiver family members and guardians who care for children with special health care needs to be vaccinated beginning March 8. Eligibility expanded to all Michiganders 50 and older beginning March 22.

Tips For Getting Vaccinated

The expanded eligibility is good news for residents eager to get a shot in their arms. But finding a dose can prove difficult at times.

There's no one way to find a time slot that's open for a vaccine dose, so if you're looking to get vaccinated as soon as possible in Michigan here are some tips:

1. Check Your Local Health Department

Michigan allocates much of its COVID-19 vaccine supply to county health departments around the state. While health departments often partner with area hospitals to distribute vaccine doses, many are providing or assisting with vaccination efforts.

2. Check Pharmacy Chains

In Michigan, many local pharmaceutical chains are playing a major role in distributing the vaccine. Retailers such as Meijer, Rite Aid, Walgreens and others are working with the state to administer doses.

3. Check the State Website

Michigan's coronavirus web page offers its own tool for finding vaccines, sorted by county. You can visit that site here.
