Murderer To Return To Prison For Kidnapping Detroit Toddler
Grady Lamar Barrett used a machete when he abducted the 2-year-old girl, federal prosecutors said.

DETROIT, MI – A man, who kidnapped a 2-year-old girl from a relative's home, will return to prison and spend at least the next 20 years behind bars, according to reports. Grady Lamar Barrett, 43, of Detroit, pleaded guilty to the kidnapping charge in U.S. District Court in Detroit on Tuesday, federal prosecutors announced.
Barrett used a machete and forcibly removed the girl from a home in the 21000-block of Karl Streeth in Detroit on Aug. 1, according to court records. He drove the girl to Ohio and then returned to Michigan. He led police on a high-speed chase across multiple counties before crashing on Meyers Road, south of Seven Mile Road, Michigan State Police reported.
An Amber alert had been issued and later canceled as police sought Barrett and the girl.

Barrett had been out of prison for about a year when the abduction occurred, reported The Detroit News. He had been incarcerated in Alabama on a second-degree murder conviction in the stabbing death of woman.
Barrett will be sentenced on July 20, federal prosecutors in Detroit said. He faces a minimum of 20 years in prison.
