Nearly 200K Without Power Due To High Winds In Southeast Michigan

Hundreds of downed power lines have been reported throughout the DTE Energy service area.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — Nearly 200,000 DTE Energy customers were without power as of 9:30 p.m. Sunday as much of Southeast Michigan remains under a storm alert. Some outages could last as long as 48 hours, the company said.

Wind damage is causing most of the outages, according to an outage map on the DTE Energy website. An area just south of Waterford was experiencing the most outages around 6:30 p.m., with more than 2,500 reported.

"Due to the high winds and volume of outages this afternoon, restoration estimates will be provided once a crew assesses the damage," according to DTE Energy. "To help keep our customers and our employees healthy throughout the pandemic, if you see crews working in your neighborhood, please stay at least six feet away. If you see a downed wire, stay 20 feet away and report it immediately."
