Public Arrangements To Be Held For Wayne County Sheriff Who Died
Members of the public will have two opportunities to pay their respects to Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon, who died Thursday.

WAYNE COUNTY, MI — Members of the public will have two opportunities to pay their respects to Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon, who died Thursday following a month-long fight with the coronavirus.
Public viewings will be held for Napoleon from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 28 at Swanson Funeral Home, 806 E. Grand Blvd. in Detroit, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 29 at Greater Grace Temple, 23500 W. Seven Mile Rd., according to Napoleon's daughter, Tiffani Jackson.
Masks and social distancing will be required, according to a flyer. The family will hold a private service at a later point.

Napoleon died Thursday, a month after reporting that he had first tested positive for the coronavirus.

On Nov. 20, Jackson posted that her father had been admitted to a local hospital. Napoleon had tested negative for the coronavirus on Nov. 13, according to The Detroit News, but began seeing increased symptoms on Nov. 17. Another test, given on Nov. 19, resulted in a positive result.
Napoleon had been placed on a ventilator on Nov. 30, but Jackson continued to say her father was doing well.

Napoleon's death prompted hundreds of people from across Michigan to post memories of the former sheriff on social media. During a news conference about coronavirus restrictions, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer touted her friendship with Napoleon in discussing how important containing the spread of the virus is.
On Saturday, two days after Napoleon's death, Jackson posted to social media thanking people for their messages.
