Severe Thunderstorm Warnings In Place Across Southeast Michigan

Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties are under severe thunderstorm warnings, according to the National Weather Service.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — Parts of southeast Michigan are under severe thunderstorm warnings, according to the National Weather Service in White Lake.

A thunderstorm warning was issued for Oakland County around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, with a strong thunderstorm located near Milford and heading east at 20 mph, according to the weather service.

Other areas impacted Thursday afternoon included St. Clair Shores and the Grosse Pointe area. Those areas were placed under thunderstorm warnings until 5:15 p.m.

The storms moving through the region can produce winds up to 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Hail up to the size of a quarter also is possible, according to the service forecast.

Special marine warnings also were issued across the eastern border of Michigan's southeastern stretch. Waterspouts are not expected, however.

Southeast Michigan has been the target of severe thunderstorms and significant rains for more than a week, leading to flooding across the region and numerous power outages. As of 5 p.m. Thursday, DTE reported nearly 97,000 customers were without power.
