Sheriff's Deputy Kills Man Trying To Break Into Her Home: Police

The gunman kicked in her door, then she opened fire, police said.

DETROIT, MI – A Wayne County Sheriff’s deputy has been re-assigned pending an investigation after she reportedly shot and killed a man trying to break into her home this weekend. Detroit police say an armed, masked gunman kicked open the door of the deputy’s home.

The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, reported the Detroit police.

The deputy, a 35-year-old woman, heard the suspect crash through the door of her home in the 1400-block of Beatrice Street, police said. She drew her weapon and fired at the suspect, hitting him in the chest, Detroit police said.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, police said. No charges have been filed against the sheriff's deputy and the incident remains under investigation. The deputy has been assigned to administrative duties pending the investigation, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.

Officials from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and Medical Examiner's office did not immediately respond to phone messages left by Patch on Monday.
