Slain Wayne State Police Officer Collin Rose: Vigil, Viewing, Funeral Set
A long procession of police officers expected to accompany officer's body from church to cemetery.

DETROIT, MI — Funeral arrangements and numerous memorials have been set for slain Wayne State University Police Officer Collin Rose, who died Wednesday, Nov. 23, after he was shot in the head a day earlier.
Rose, 29, was trying to take a suspect into custody when he was shot on Nov. 22. DeAngelo Lamar Davis, 31, of Detroit, is being held without bond on first-degree murder and other felony charges.
Mourners will be able to show their respect both at a candlelight vigil Tuesday, a public viewing Wednesday and the officer’s funeral on Thursday.

Candlelight vigil: 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at the flagpole near the undergraduate library on the Wayne State University campus. At 6:31 p.m., a week to the minute of the day Rose was killed, a moment of silence will be observed.
Public viewing: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday at Ford Field.

Funeral and burial: Family hour is from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc, 22412 Overlake St. in St. Clair Shores. A law enforcement procession will lead to Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township,18201 Clinton River Road, where Rose will be buried. Kaul Funeral Home in St. Clair Shores is handling the arrangements.
During the funeral, all Wayne County Sheriff's Office officers in equipped units will assume a fied lcoation on Wayne County roads and simultaneously enable their lights and sirens for 15 seconds in memory of Rose.
"We are saddened to hear of the passing of Officer Rose," Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon said. "Officer Rose was also known for being a very proactive, canine officer who worked hard at keeping the community safe. This is a tremendous loss to us all.:
Residents of Detroit’s Woodbridge neighborhood held a vigil to honor the fallen Wayne State police officer Saturday night. Mourners marched from Scripps Park on Grand River Avenue to the spot where Rose was shot.
“I think that's huge; it just shows the character of this officer did and the mission we have out here,” said Wayne State Police Chief Anthony Holt told WXYZ-TV.
“It just shows that we are a strong community; we care about each other and we care about the police,” Tamara French, one of the organizers of the vigil told the TV station.

The community is planning to commission a statue of Rose, who patrolled with a canine officer, with a dog. Local artists are asked to submit their designs to woodbridgeneighborhooddetroit@gmail.com.
