Third Suspect Charged In O'Reilly Auto Parts Homicide-Robbery

During the robbery, the store manager was shot and killed, police say.

DETROIT, MI – A third suspect has been charged in connection to the shooting death of an auto parts store manager during a robbery two weeks ago. Eboni McEwen-Ross, 28, of Detroit, on Thursday was arraigned on a count of murder and two counts of armed robbery.

If convicted, McEwen-Ross faces a maximum of life in prison without parole. She is expected back in court on Nov. 29 for a probable cause hearing.

McEwen-Ross was involved in a robbery of an O'Reilly Auto Parts store on Schaefer Drive in Detroit on Nov. 1, according to court documents. Police that she, along with suspect Shawnta Anderson, 23, of Detroit, robbed the store. During the robbery, Anderson pointed a handgun at one employee and ordered him to the ground and ordered another cashier to open the cash register. Police said that McEwen-Ross took money out of the register.

Meanwhile, the store manager, James Haller, 69, of Detroit, came from the back of the store and shouted at the suspected robbers. Police said Anderson turned and fired a single shot at Haller, hitting him in the head. After Anderson and McEwen fled, police and medics arrived. Haller, who was taken to a nearby hospital, died two hours later.

Another suspect, Leviticus Butler, 38, also of Detroit, helped the two women escape.

Butler and Anderson were previously arrested by police. Anderson has been arraigned on charges of murder, armed robbery, and felony firearms. Butler is charged as an accessory.

McEwen-Ross surrendered to police this week.
