Tornadoes, High Winds, Hail Possible Throughout SE Michigan

The National Weather Service in Detroit has issued a severe weather outlook beginning Sunday night in Southeast Michigan.

DETROIT — Southeast Michigan residents have been urged to prepare for severe weather that could begin as early as 8 p.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service in Detroit earlier in the day issued a severe weather outlook that stated there's an "enhanced" risk for potential threats.

"A strong low pressure system will bring likely showers and thunderstorms to Michigan tonight," NWS Detroit wrote in a Sunday afternoon tweet.

The "greatest potential" for severe weather is south of a line from Saginaw to Lexington, according to the NWS.

"Scattered to numerous severe thunderstorms will be possible. Damaging wind gusts, large hail, isolated tornadoes, and heavy downpours with localized flooding are the main hazards," the NWS wrote.

A NWS graphic showing much of Michigan south of the Lansing in an enhanced risk shows winds could hit 60 miles per hour, and one inch of hail possible.
