The woman was seriously injured in the attack just days before the Transgender Day of Remembrance.

DETROIT, MI – A 36-year-old transgender woman was seriously injured after being robbed and shot by her assailants early last Friday morning, according to the Wayne County prosecutor's office. The attack came just days before Transgender Day of Remembrance on Monday.

Police have arrested two men in connection with the attack. Charles Marion Brown, 21, and Jujuan Alexon Williams, 21, both of Detroit, are facing charges ranging from attempted murder to armed robbery, as well as weapons violations, according to the report. They are to be arraigned on Monday.

The woman was hospitalized and is in stable condition, according to the prosecutor's office. Fair Michigan, an advocacy organization that works with the LGBTQ community, applauded the Detroit police's quick response and arrests of the men involved.

"On the eve of the national Transgender Day of Remembrance, this case illustrates the horrific acts of violence to which transgender persons are subject," said Dana Nessel, president of Fair Michigan.

The attack took place along the 17800-block of Woodward Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. Friday. The men stopped their vehicle, jumped out and told the woman to drop her belongings and run. She did, and then the men fired an automatic weapon at her and wounded her with three shots, the prosecutor's office reported.
