Wayne County Opens 2 New COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics Thursday

WAYNE COUNTY, MI — The Wayne County Health Department is expanding eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine to anyone who lives or works in Ecorse, Inkster, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Melvindale and River Rouge who is also 16 and older at Wayne County clinics beginning Thursday, the county announced on Wednesday.

Appointments can be scheduled at the clinics — located in Taylor and Livonia — by calling 1-866-610-3885. The Taylor clinic will be set up at the Wayne County Community College Downriver Campus, 21000 Northline Rd. The Livonia clinic will be at the ViaTaTech Center on the campus of Schoolcraft College, 18600 Haggerty Rd.

"Vaccination is the one thing that can end this deadly pandemic and safely return life to normal," Wayne County Executive Warren Evans said. "Now that we are able to expand vaccine eligibility, the right time for residents to get their shot is right now."

The health department is scheduling appointments for residents and workers from the most vulnerable communities with the highest Social Vulnerability Index first due to limited vaccine supply from the state, officials said.

Appointment times for other communities will be announced by the county as it works through the prioritized community list, according to a news release.

Appointments will be scheduled depending on vaccine supply from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Officials said transportation to clinics is available.

"Expanded eligibility is a critical next step in combating COVID-19, so Wayne County is committed to ensuring wide vaccine accessibility," Wayne County Chief Operating Officer Genelle Allen said. "Vaccine equity is essential to fully protecting our communities. That's why Wayne County is making it easier for residents and workers to schedule appointments by phone and to obtain transportation assistance."
